HEIC to PDF or HEIC to JPG: which do you need?
| You need to... | Choose |
|---|---|
| Send several photos as one file (receipts, a contract photographed page by page, homework) | HEIC to PDF |
| Upload to a form that says "PDF only" | HEIC to PDF |
| Print photos on A4 or US Letter with even margins | HEIC to PDF |
| Edit a photo, post it online or use it as a profile picture | HEIC to JPG |
| Keep each photo as a separate image file | HEIC to JPG |
In short: PDF is for documents you send, upload or print; JPG is for pictures you edit or share one at a time.
Everyday uses for a HEIC to PDF converter
- Expense claims: photograph each receipt on your iPhone, then send one PDF to your manager or accountant.
- Visa, rental and job applications: portals often accept only PDF for passport pages, payslips and bank letters.
- School and university: turn photos of handwritten homework into one PDF for the class upload page.
- Signed paper forms: sign on paper, photograph each page and send them back as a single document.
Why HEIC photos will not open on some computers
HEIC is Apple's default photo format. Windows needs an extra HEIF extension to open it, and many websites and older programs reject it. A PDF made from those photos opens in any browser and on any phone or computer with no add-ons, so the person you send it to does not need to install anything.
To make your iPhone save new photos as JPG instead, go to Settings, Camera, Formats and choose Most Compatible. Photos you have already taken stay HEIC, which is what this page is for.
Why turn HEIC photos into a PDF?
iPhones save photos as HEIC to use about half the storage of JPG. That is great on the phone, but when you need to send receipts, homework, a signed form or a set of ID photos, many people and websites expect one tidy PDF instead of a pile of image files. A PDF keeps the pages in order, opens on every computer and phone, and can be attached to an email or uploaded to a form in one go.
This converter does both steps at once: it reads the HEIC photos, turns them the right way up and places each one on its own PDF page. You do not need to convert to JPG first.
How to convert HEIC to PDF on Windows, Mac, iPhone or Android
- Get the HEIC photos onto the device you are using: by cable, AirDrop, email, or a cloud folder such as iCloud Drive, Google Drive or OneDrive.
- Open this page and choose the photos. Select them in the order you want the pages to appear.
- Choose the page size. Same as each photo gives borderless pages; A4 or US Letter gives printable pages with a margin.
- Pick a photo size. Email (1,600 px) keeps the PDF small; Original size keeps every detail for printing.
- Click Convert to PDF. The PDF downloads to your Downloads folder (or Files on iPhone).
Keeping the PDF small enough to email
A 12-megapixel iPhone photo at full size adds 2 to 4 MB to a PDF. For documents and receipts that is far more than you need. Choose Email (1,600 px) and 80% JPG quality: text on paper stays easy to read and each page is usually 200 to 400 KB. If the PDF is still too large for an upload form, run it through Compress PDF.
Mixing HEIC with JPG and PNG
When PDF is selected you can add JPG and PNG images too, for example a screenshot alongside your camera photos. They are placed on pages exactly like the HEIC photos. To combine the new PDF with other PDF files, use Merge PDF.
