What is Markdown?
Markdown is a simple way to format text with ordinary characters: # Heading for a heading, **bold** for bold, - item for a bullet list and [text](https://example.com) for a link. It is used for README files on GitHub, notes in apps such as Obsidian, Notion and Bear, documentation, and text written with AI chat tools. Markdown is easy to write but needs converting before you can send it as a polished document.
How to convert Markdown to PDF
- Paste your Markdown, or open a
.mdfile such as a README. - Open Preview to check headings, lists and links.
- Choose the page size, font and margins. Sans serif suits technical documents; Serif suits reports and articles.
- Click Convert to PDF. Headings, lists, quotes, code blocks and tables are laid out for you, and links stay clickable.
Supported Markdown
- Headings
#to######(and underlined headings) - Bold, italic and
inline code - Bullet, numbered and task lists (
- [x]), with nesting - Block quotes, horizontal rules and fenced or indented code blocks
- Links (clickable in the PDF) and simple tables, shown as aligned rows
Images and raw HTML are not included: images live in separate files, and skipping HTML keeps the conversion safe.
Tips for a clean PDF
- Start with one
#heading as the document title; use##for sections. - Leave a blank line between paragraphs and before lists.
- Very wide tables are easier to read in landscape: convert, then use Rotate PDF if needed.
- Add page numbers here, or later with PDF page numbers, and combine several documents with Merge PDF.
